I wonder if the three were opportunistic rather than patriotic.<br /><br /> Years ago I attempted to understand geopolitical imprints on the land. The three traders you describe will allow me to confirm my thesis with a high level of confidence. I was looking at land patents then, one effect was that I made discoveries on the land but I didn't follow out the many historic leads from the discoveries. I was trying to produce a map and the historic data was to be mapped to see if it makes some kind of sense, particularly if it affected road use and road placement for settlement and commerce.
